Verona Walkers Team Up Against Breast Cancer

There weren’t any big corporate sponsors, no television cameras, no celebrities. Just regular Veronans doing laps around the middle school track to do away with a disease that has affected more than a few people in town.

Sunday was the Verona High School track team’s annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month walkathon. Started four years ago by three then seniors on the team as a community service project, the walk has become a quiet October ritual in town. And so on a brilliant blue October day, team members and their neighbors and friends put on a bit of pink, put down $25 and walked the walk.
