There weren’t any big corporate sponsors, no television cameras, no celebrities. Just regular Veronans doing laps around the middle school track to do away with a disease that has affected more than a few people in town.
Sunday was the Verona High School track team’s annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month walkathon. Started four years ago by three then seniors on the team as a community service project, the walk has become a quiet October ritual in town. And so on a brilliant blue October day, team members and their neighbors and friends put on a bit of pink, put down $25 and walked the walk.
