Have you ever wondered what it would be like to walk along the streets of Verona a century ago when they were country lanes or to stand at the White Rock and look out at a placid country valley complete with open fields and pastures? If so, join the Verona Historical Society for its Old Verona Night to be held on Tuesday. October 4 at the historic Verona Methodist Church, 26 Montrose Avenue at 7:30 p.m.
Your tour guide, Robert L. Williams, will accompany you back in time and down the streets of a very different Verona (in photos). He will introduce you to some of Verona’s notable personages including members of his own family who helped to shape the community we know and love today.
You will enjoy a steamboat ride on Captain Cook’s launch on Verona Lake and visit the little boys and girls at the Newark City Home where Verona High School is today. The event will conclude with a tour of the church and is graceful stained glass windows–several panels of which are credited from Tiffany.
If you appreciate Verona, you will not want to miss this event. For more information you can e-mail the Society; or call 973-857-1968.
