Dwight Tucci of the Verona High School boys soccer team has been selected as the Verona Sports Boosters Senior Athlete of the Week. In two victories during the September 18 to 24 period, Tucci scored twice, including a game-winning goal against Science Park. His performance has helped the Hillbillies improve their record to 6-0.
In a battle against previously undefeated Science Park on Wednesday,September 21, Tucci converted a direct kick from just outside the box to break a 1-1 second-half tie and give Verona its 2-1 winning margin. He also scored a first-half goal in the team’s 7-1 defeat of Bloomfield Tech earlier in the week. Tucci, who has seen varsity playing time since his freshman member of the soccer team, has either a goal or an assist in each of the team’s six games this season (5 goals, 2 assists). He will be back on defense for the VHS lacrosse team next spring.
During the 2011-2012 school year, the Verona Sports Boosters will be recognizing a different senior athlete at Verona High School every week. The Boosters support male and female athletes in all VHS sports through a variety of fundraisers and recognition events.
