Do you miss having a chance to shake your groove thing to those classic funk songs we all know and love? Well wait no longer! Four talented Verona kids will be performing this Saturday, September 24, at the Crane Park Festival in Montclair. They are part of the School of Rock Montclair’s Funk and Reggae Performance Program and will be onstage at noon for this free outdoor performance.
The School of Rock students have been rehearsing weekly since June under the direction of Mark Dollar and Maurice Watson. Verona residents Katie Kast and Michael Petillo will be playing guitar, Ella Yarmo-Gray will play keyboard and vocals and Owen Yarmo-Gray will play keyboard and drums. The show will include a variety of different Funk and Reggae songs that will be sure to get you off your feet. The dedication and musicality of these young musicians is infectious and Petillo’s amazing guitar solos will leave you shaking your head and wondering just how old this 6th grader actually is.
The song lineup includes such hits as “Boogie Oogie Oogie” by A Taste of Honey, “The Harder They Come” by Jimmy Cliff and “Superbad” by James Brown. Other songs by Bob Marley, Kool and the Gang, Prince and Parliament will also be performed. If you like what you see Saturday and want to be a part of the fun, be sure to look for School of Rock’s ad in the VHS Festival of the Bands program next Saturday, October 1, for a discount on enrollment for new students.
Sadly this event has been cancelled due to the weather!
