Chris Scheper, pictured in the middle above, recently became the newest addition to the Verona Fire Department. Scheper graduated from the new Essex County Fire Academy, one of nine new firefighters from surrounding Essex County towns–including Verona, Cedar Grove, Caldwell, Roseland and Bloomfield–who were the very first graduating class from the new academy. The fire academy is now part of the Essex County Police Academy in Cedar Grove and it uses the VFD’s training facility on Commerce Court for practical hands-on drills.
