The e-mails rippled like a shock wave across Verona yesterday. Patrick James McNally Sr.–“Pat” to his fans on the Verona Pool slides and beyond–had died. McNally, who was only 50, had been Essex County Clerk from 1995 to 2005, and more recently owned his own government consulting business. His achievements in New Jersey government were noted yesterday by PolitickerNJ, which quoted Assemblyman Tom Giblin of Montclair as saying, “He had a love of government and had an opportunity at a relatively young age to serve as Essex County clerk.” McNally, who brought his family to Verona 15 years ago, leaves behind his wife Anne and four children; his full obituary in the Star Ledger is here.
