In Wednesday action, Verona High School girls soccer goalie Alison Sprong and the tough Hillbilly defense held Newark Academy scoreless for 2-0 victory. After a scoreless first half, Laura Hart scored on an assist from Jill Sprong. Sprong later netted one with an assist from Olivia Marino. Verona’s record stands at 2-1.
The girls volleyball team cruised to their 4th victory against one loss by topping University (Newark) 2-0. Sarah Frawley led the Hillbillies with eight aces, seven kills and three digs. Emily Symons led the team with 15 assists. Victoria Purcell and Amanda Langan each had four digs in the effort.
On Monday the Verona girls tennis team fell to Mount St. Dominick 4-1. Junior Jackie Noyes put the Hillbillies on the board with a 2-6, 6-0, 6-4 Singles 1 victory. The squad stormed back on Wednesday with a 5-0 victory over DePaul to even their record at 1-1. In singles, Jackie Noyes, Ashley Stockwell and Ciarra Davison came away victorious. Caroline Chivily and Briana Tedesco won their doubles match as did Jasmine Okafor and Allie Vaccaro.
