Boys Soccer Advances To 3-0, Volleyball Tops Belleville

In action against Golda Och Academy

In Monday action the Hillbillies boys’ soccer squad topped the Orange Tornados 7-0. Aaron Seubert scored two goals; Dwight Tucci added a goal and an assist, and Chris Ohlweiler chipped in with a goal. Nick Looney and Chris Unis added assists. Senior Joe Festa had two saves defending the net.

Tuesday, the Verona boys soccer improved their record to 3-0 behind goals by Connor Waldron, and Jon Tosh. Tucci and Tosh had an assist. The 2-0 victory over Golda Och Academy was the third consecutive shutout for the Hillbillies. Tosh and Matt Braschi lead the squad with three goals.

Also Tuesday, the Verona girls’ soccer team evened their record at 1-1 by shutting down Science Park High School 5-0 behind Olivia Marino’s three-goal “hat trick” and senior goalie Alison Sprong’s four saves. Kelsey Attamante and Jillian Sprong chipped in with goals, while Julia Ashley had two assists.

After winning two games in weekend tournament action, the VHS girls volleyball team topped Belleville 2-0 to improve their record to 3-1. Catherine Aracil served up five aces and Emily Symons had seven assists.

The volleyball team is home against University today at 4 p.m. The boys soccer team is home against East Orange High on Friday, while the girls are away at Cranford. The girls tennis squad is at Cedar Grove on Friday, and the Hillbilly football team has a night game at Orange High School.
