Four Verona senior citizens won first place ribbons and a fifth won honorable mention last week at the Essex County Senior Citizens Juried Art Show. There were 124 pieces of artwork entered into this year’s competition, which was the largest number of entries in recent history.
Catherine Luzzi won first place in the professional acrylic category for “The Arbor.” Dennis Murray won first place in the non-professional print category for “Dog on Pillow.” Joyce Orsock-Schmitz won first place in the non-professional drawing category for “Grace.” Bill Wood won first place in the professional print category for “Mallard.” In addition, Harriet Hiller received an honorable mention in the non-professional oil category for “Roman Street Scene.”
Works from the show will be on display in the lobby of the Essex County Hospital Center, 204 Grove Avenue, Cedar Grove, through Thursday, September 15. The building is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 4 to 7 p.m. The artists who received first place awards will have their work entered into the New Jersey State Senior Citizens Art Show, which will be from September 26 to October 27 at Meadow Lakes, 300 Meadow Lakes, East Windsor.
The slideshow below has many of the Verona winners, as well as a piece by Joe Schifano, whom we profiled earlier this year.
