Michael Unis, a member of the Verona Board of Education, will meet with U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and other senior policy advisors at a policy briefing in Washington, D.C., today. . Unis is attending the meeting as a member of Leadership for Educational Equity (LEE), a nonprofit organization that inspires, trains and supports Teach For America (TFA) alumni and corps members in their pursuits of civic activism and public leadership. Teach For America recruits a diverse group of leaders who commit to teach two years in a low-income community in an effort to close the achievement gap. This event is one of LEE’s many efforts to engage leaders at all levels of government, and to influence them to be deeply committed to a path of providing an excellent education for all children.
