At its meeting on Monday, August 15, the Town Council awarded a contract to resurface the Verona Pool and add a walk-in ramp. The $394,500 contract, which was awarded to RJR Engineering, is the first resurfacing of the pool in more than 20 years. “This project is long overdue,” said Council member Jay Sniatkowski, who noted that the Council has discussed the work on and off since 1991. The work will include a broad ramp that pool members can use to gradually walk into the water or roll in with a water wheelchair, which should alleviate the crowding that occurs on the southwest corner steps. The work will be done this fall.
The Council also approved an ordinance authorizing the issuance of $83,000 in bonds for other capital improvements to the pool. The money will be largely used to replace the leaking roofs on two equipment buildings, one behind the baby pool and the other by the diving well. The ordinance included $22,500 to cover the acquisition of pool furniture over the next three to four years. The bond will be repaid from pool membership fees.
I’m all for the resurfacing of the pool but $83,000 to replace the roofs on the two equipment sheds. Seems like a lot of money for two small buildings. And $22,500 to purchase new pool furniture over the next few years. The furniture is just fine as far as I can see. Thoughts?
