Major road work is going to close one of Verona’s north-south roads again. Mt. Prospect is going to be shut all day tomorrow, Thursday, August 11, from 7 a.m. through 7 a.m. Friday, August 12. The road will be closed again on Friday from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. Saturday.

According to Verona Police Department Captain Mitchell Stern, the county needs to close the road to install drainage ditches that should alleviate the buildup of ice on Mt. Prospect in winter. Workers have to dig through the bedrock and install perforated pipe below.

The most affected stretch of road will be between Sunset Avenue and Summit Road in Verona, which will be completely closed, even to local traffic. Captain Stern says that if you are going to The Manor or the Montclair Golf Club, your best bet is to take Lakeside to Woodland Avenue in West Orange (the corner with the synagogue and the fire house). At the top of Woodland, you’ll be able to turn right onto Mt. Prospect. See the map for details.
