The Verona Recreation Department is looking for coaches for its suburban basketball teams. There are two teams at each grade level, fifth through eighth grade, one for boys and one for girls. The season will begin with tryouts in mid-October with games beginning in mid-December and continuing into late February. Generally there are two or three practices per week pre-season. When games start, there are one or two practices and two games each week. The VRD strives at all times to make the practice schedule fit the coach.

Prospective volunteer coaches are invited to submit a letter to Recreation Director Jim Cunningham, outlining their experience and general qualifications. Coaches are subject to a background check conducted by completing and submitting a background check form. These forms are available in the Recreation office, or online.

All volunteer coaches are also required to hold a coaching certificate. Rutgers Coaching Clinics will be held on the second floor of the Verona Community Center from 7 to 10 p.m. on September 20 and 27, and October 11. Classes are sponsored by the Verona Municipal Alliance Committee. Please call the Recreation office to register for class in advance, 973-857-4830. Anyone planning on assisting the head coach or working with the teams in any capacity must also hold a coaching certification.
