Where In Verona Is It? The Police Station!

Dispatcher Sue DeWitt with Chief Doug Huber

By now you’re probably wondering how Kathleen Seubert does it. How has she won the MyVeronaNJ baseball cap for so many of the Where In Verona contests? (Yes, she did it again.)

It’s not by following Fred Goode around, though we recently figured out that Fred coaches one of Kathleen’s kids in lacrosse. Kathleen describes herself as a “spatial memory person”, by which she means that she remember things based on time and place.

So here’s how her thought process worked on this week’s slideshow of the Verona Police Department‘s headquarters, which we are publishing in full below. “The town seems to have a contract with Dell: Library, Rec, DPW all have Dell computers,” she e-mailed us last night.  “First picture–the background is cube panels so that means it is an office.  The keyboard tray is curved but that did not help me.  Second picture–made me think of a car handle. My gut reaction was police car–only car with a computer in it.  Then I remembered that the keyboard is for a desktop, like the cheesy Dell I am using (my husband’s; mine is a MacBook Pro) and the cars have laptops.  So from there I went to police HQ.  Is the handle to the car?  I do not think so; I was thinking a metal cabinet.” It’s actually some sort of switch hook on the dispatch board.

In the interest of full disclosure, we should note that there were two correct answers ahead of Kathleen that we didn’t publish. One was from a current member of the Verona Police Department; the other was from a Rescue Squad volunteer who admitted that he has been “behind the glass” at the Police Department and has seen the desk from the other side. We hope that we can ask you to “police” your own connections to future contest locations and abstain from guessing if you need to.

Where will be next Monday? You’ll have to wait to see.
