This is it folks: The last week of MyVeronaNJ.com’s year-long contest to see how well you know the town you live in. Over the last 52 weeks, Fred Goode has taken his camera–and you–to just about every corner of Verona, night and day, and sometimes more than once.
Maybe you’ve won one of our signature MyVeronaNJ.com baseball caps, maybe you’ve never guessed before. Maybe you should give it one more try before we end this contest and begin to work on the next one, which will twist your brain in a whole new direction (more about that later). Fred has sent 28 pictures for this week, and one of them may be just the clue you need.
And one final reminder on the rules: Put your real name, real email address and guess into the Comments field below. Good(e) luck!.
UPDATE: We’re now up to FIFTEEN clues. Keep guessing!

2nd time trying to post this…is it one of the flag poles at the civic center?
We’ll all having trouble this Monday. But yours includes a wrong answer.
Ok, I’ll keep barking up a tree…even if it’s wrong…how about a flag pole at the “triangle” (where Bloomfield meets Pompton/Mt. Prospect)
Looks like trailer hitch…..where would there be a trailer???? How about DPW facility on Commerce Ct?
How about not?
Wrong tree.
Fenton Construction
Fenton Construction gets a guess every other week. It’s been the wrong guess before and it still is now.
Essex County salt dome on Bloomfield Ave?
The boathouse in Verona Park?
backstage @ vhs
Is it your house?
Bill: No, but a creative guess. Maureen: No, though I think I understand why you thought that. Kathleen: No, you have ‘”Annie” on the brain. Beth: No. At least not the last time I checked.
This is a fun contest, I wish that I had participated earlier……my next wrong guess will be the Bahr lumber parking lot on Durrell
Better late than never. But better right than wrong, and unfortunately, Bahr was Week 25: https://myveronanj.com/2011/01/11/where-in-verona-is-it-charles-bahr-son/
How about one of my favorites (tell me if you’ve heard this one before)…7 11
Verona Sewer Plant
I can even hum the first four notes of that tune. But it’s still not right. BTW, we’re going to have a profile of one of the new businesses in the 7-11 complex soon.
Not the sewer plant, sorry.
how about Alberona on Bloomfield
How about No?
West Essex Building Supply?
No, sorry. Week 38: https://myveronanj.com/2011/04/11/where-in-verona-is-it-week-38/
Fred’s house!
Now why would he want all you people knowing what his house looks like? No.
Lukoil??
Sorry, you’ll need a different power source for the answer.
How about the new Allstate office near the corner of Bloomfield & Brookdale.
What about the old Brunner dealership on Bloomfield
Taking another stab at it….Hillcrest Farms???
Sorry, gentlemen: Been there, done that, as the kids say. Hillcrest was week 1: https://myveronanj.com/2010/07/28/where-in-verona-the-winner-of-week-1/ and the old Brunner dealership was Week 34: https://myveronanj.com/2011/04/14/2011/03/14/where-in-verona-is-it-week-34/
I think I forgot to say No to this one, so here it is: No.
Henrys?
Nope.
Let’s try the maintainance room in, oh, try HBW for this one.
Walgreens?
No to Walgreens and Jeff, really? What happened to all your scientific analysis of Fred’s photos?
Verona Pool
I believe that the #3 Photo may be a product manufactured by Carboline http://www.carboline.com . Visit the web site and see if you folks might agree….If so, think about water-proofing companies in Verona along with businesses that service the Carboline types of materials..Just a hunch….
the new dry cleaners next to 7-11, I don’t know the name of this cleaner cause I only go to Jimmy at American Dry Cleaners
Sue: No. Drew: It’s called Lapels. Carl: You’ve clearly been studying with Jeff Shilling.
ok then how about frank anthony’s
Week 28: https://myveronanj.com/2011/02/01/where-in-verona-is-it-frank-anthonys/
Jack McEvoy Contractor
Hmmm. That seems more like “who in Verona” than “where in Verona”. No.
I know Jack, so I know it’s NOT Jack. But how about Custom Creations?
You’re right. It’s not Jack’s. That was week 5: https://myveronanj.com/2010/08/25/where-in-verona-contest-week-5-winner/
But it’s also not Custom Creations…
Gemmells?
MJB Construction, 166 Bloomfield Ave
No to Gemmells, no to MJB.
JAB Construction on Depot st?
how about Postnet next to lapel dry cleaners
No, but I had a fun time interviewing them. Will have a story soon. And Bill, I should have written about JAB before. But that’s not where we are. More in the morning.
Dutch Maid?
Wow. I don’t think anyone has guessed that in the last year ever. Maybe because it’s wrong. New clue going up now.
Decozen
Annin Flag?
No to DeCozen and Annin was week 50: https://myveronanj.com/2011/07/04/where-in-verona-is-it-week-50/
Essex County Public Works building, 900 Bloomfield Ave
Ok, I’ll change tactics…Congregational church?
Not Public Works.
Uh-oh, random guessing has started. Not the Congregational Church.
American Dry Cleaners? (And what’s wrong with random guessing on such a hot day?)
I’m sure this has been done before but is it the library?
It’s like “random dancing” on iCarly. Fun, but pointless. Or in this case, futile.
So stay by the fan, and watch for more clues.
Random guessing is fun – Montclair Acura
Verona pool
Yes Bill, the Library was week 18: https://myveronanj.com/2010/11/24/where-in-verona-is-it-the-library/
Kristin, the Pool was week 46: https://myveronanj.com/2011/06/06/where-in-verona-is-it-week-46/
Beth and Kathleen, No.
New clues going up soon.
I thought we already did this one but how about the Verona Community Center?
Petron Pools
Jeff, while we did the field up by the Community Center on Week 10, we hadn’t done the Community Center itself. We still haven’t.
Kathleen, No. But some sort of pool would be a good option for the afternoon.
Verona Yoga
No, but you have to go to the next “Wineyasa” work-out there. It was great!
Is it the Senior Apts. across the street from the high school?
Nope. Not Hillwood.
Y & L Health Care Clinic
I don’t even know that that is. So, by default, No.
Wow!
Building and Grounds garage on Ozone avenue
I think we should all pray for the heatwave to end at OLL
155 Pompton Ave? (Used to be a bank, then AAA was there, now I think there is a chiropractor in the building
Lukes auto service on Grove?
First Presbyterian Church on Fairview.
Is it the Community Center?
Let me work through these in reverse order.
Donna: No. Jeff had the same guess earlier today
Jeff: No. Again. Or is that three times?
Colin: No
Beth: Doesn’t matter what you call it, that’s not where we are.
Bryan: A prayer to end the heat wave is a great idea. Start now.
Sue: No.
How about Carnevale on Bloomfield Ave?
No, and I’m not posting any more pictures tonight. Go to sleep.
One more shot at it before I spontaneously combust…..Town Hall?
Fred wins….
Bill, alas, that was Week 2: https://myveronanj.com/2010/08/04/where-in-verona-the-winner-of-week-2/
If you feel as if you are going to combust, you might be able to save the 911 call since several members of the Rescue Squad have been guessing along with you.
Beth, surrender is not an option. I’m putting up some new photos now.
Prout Funeral Home/Monument Place
Again, No.
OK, I actually checked the list of previous locations and did not see this one on it. It seemed too obvious so I never thought to guess. Of course, if I am wrong again, I look like a fool but I feel kind of confident. How many places in town would have an AED? Of all the ones that have not been guessed yet, I am going to say OLL Church.
How about the church on Gould St. across from the police station?
On second thought, now that I scrolled up I see that Bryon kind of guessed OLL without actually saying that was his guess so now I am not so sure. However, I will stand with that for now.
Y & L Health Care Clinic? I believe it’s 25 Pompton Ave and across from Ray’s Pizza and Chase Bank.
First, we need a translation from Rescue Squad-speak. An AED is an automated external defibrillator, which is the photo about 10 shots in.
Then to the answers. Bill, the church on Gould Street is the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit. We don’t have an AED.
Which leaves us with Jeff’s guess. Though he seems to question it, Jeff has has figured out that we are, indeed at OLL. But since Bryan paved the way for Jeff’s winning guess, we are going to award hats for Week 52 to both of them.
I’m unveiling all off the Week 52 photos now. Thanks to all of you who have played, this week and throughout the year.
Jeff, Great job!
As Virginia and I figured it was time to take a break from the contest she wanted to make sure that our final site was one that was obvious, but challenging.
OLL was her obvious choice and I’m glad that this one went the distance and that it was by far the one location with the most comments.
I would like to congratulate everyone that was a winner over the last 52 weeks. I hope everyone who took a couple of minutes to look at the clues and play along enjoyed themselves.
Enjoy the rest of the summer.
fred
Bravo and thank you to Virginia and Fred for a very educational and fun year of this contest. Also for the quality web site that you work so very hard to keep current Virginia. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for us next.
