  1. With election results this close, how and when do the absentee ballots get added in that are sent to Newark?

  2. All of the absentee ballots are included in the vote tallies above. There were 35 absentee ballots cast for Frank Sapienza, 32 for Rob Caruso, 35 for Michael Nochimson and 18 for Dan McGinley in the four-year term race; in the two-year race, the counts were 13 for Jim Robbins, 23 for Bruce Williams, 20 for Kevin Ryan and 11 for Gerard Tamburino. Essex County election officials are following their normal procedure of recounting all the absentee ballots.

In addition, there were six ballots cast that have been deemed “provisional”, which means that there were questions about the voter’s eligibility. County officials are examining them and should communicate a decision on them to the town by the end of the week.
