The Newark Museum has announced the lineup for its summer lunchtime music program, Jazz in the Garden. The program starts next Thursday, June 30, and runs through July 28, from 12:15 to 1:45 p.m.
The Willie Jones (pictured, right)Â kicks off the series with his quartet on Thursday, June 30. The Cookers, a septet of trumpets, saxophone, piano, bass, drums will offer some original post-bop compositions on Thursday, July 7, and Thursday, July 14, features jazz pianist and composer Helen Sung. Drummer Dafnis Prieto will perform on Thursday, July 21 and on Thursday, July 28, the performer is vocalist Gregory Porter.
Held in the Museum’s Alice Dreyfuss Memorial Garden, the Jazz in the Garden Lunchtime Series runs every Thursday, rain or shine. Admission is $3 for adults. Newark
residents, children and members are admitted without charge. Jazz fans are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch or to purchase lunch in the garden.
