One of our Twitter followers cued up the Doors’ “Riders On The Storm” to get through the downpour. Anthony Lombardi and the gang at the Anthony Robert Salon grabbed towels off the hair washing station to prevent the torrential rain coming down Bloomfield Avenue in all direction from coming inside their shop.
Meanwhile, a electrical pole on Oakridge caught fire and power is out in the area for the third time today. Verona Police and Fire are on the scene, waiting for PSE&G to deal with the wire into the pole, which apparently is in danger of snapping. Oakridge is blocked off from Chestnut to Stocker.
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for our area, in place until 9 p.m. tonight. It says the Peckman River is above flood stage, which is not news to anybody on Derwent. We’ve got videos of flooding on Bloomfield Avenue and the Peckman on our YouTube page.
The Bloomfield Avenuephotos below were taken by Anthony Lombardi and Jacqueline Bianchi, who’s also in the “Jerseylicious” cast; Natasha Hiden-Burns of Dog’s Best Friend took the park shots and the “lake” is actually Colin Boyle’s back yard. Send your storm shots and we’ll add them in.
