Lee Leads VHS At Track Group Championships

Rebecca Lee led the Verona High School girls’ track team to a 7th place finish in the Group Championships in Old Bridge this past Sunday. The senior earned second place in the shot put with a throw of 37-05.25 feet.

Heather Sweeney, a junior, finished third in the 3200 meter run with a strong time of 11:22.68 minutes. Sweeney also finished 5th in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:21.01 minutes. Erin Smythe finished third in the 400 Hurdles; the junior had a time of 1:05.54 and Kelly Scully finished 8th in the 3200.

On the boys’ side, senior Kweku Sapara-Grant took 4th place in the  Triple Jump with a jump of 44.00.5 feet and Nick Lukas was 8th in the 3200 with a time of 9:53.56.

Lee, Sweeney, Smythe and Sapara-Grant will move on to compete in the Meet of Champions this Thursday in South Plainfield. Bob Thomas took these photos of the track team.
