Memorial Day 2011

Verona’s annual Memorial Day parade starts at Everett Field at 10 a.m. on Monday and marches west on Bloomfield Avenue to the center of town for the ceremony at the civic center. Bloomfield Avenue will be closed from 10 to 11 a.m., so plan an alternate route through town.

Take a look today at the names on both of Verona’s outdoor monuments at the civic center, and at the long list of Veronans who served in World War II inside town hall. Read through the site, Verona Heroes, compiled by Rob Caruso, which honors Verona’s war dead since the Civil War. And take a minute to think of those now serving, like Vincent Camerota, who was honored in a homily at Our Lady of the Lake over the weekend.
