Essex County has been holdings its fishing derbies for kids at various county parks, and Thursday afternoon found the kids (and our photographer, Fred Goode) at Verona Park lake.
The prizes for the first fish caught went to Dante D’Aille of Fairfield, Ryan Garrito of Clifton and Kiya Washington of East Orange.
The prizes for the most fish caught by the young ladies went to Madison Reardon and Julia Schimenti of Cedar Grove, and Jillian Czepurko of Springfield. The winners in the boys category were Michael Maly of Montville, Edward Garcia of Newark and Ryan Garrito of Clifton.
