Our apologies for being late on this one. Verona resident Ken Posner has been nominated for a Tony award in the category of Best Lighting Design of a Play for his work on the Broadway production of The Merchant of Venice, which started as the Public Theater’s production of Shakespeare In The Park last summer. Posner is nominated this year against Paule Constable (War Horse), David Lander (Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo) and Mimi Jordan Sherin (Jerusalem). The Tony winners will be announced in a live broadcast on Sunday, June 12.
Posner has done the lighting for more than 35 Broadway musicals, including Wicked and The Coast of Utopia, for which he won a Tony Award. His assistant on Merchant was Alex Fogel, who graduated from Verona High School in 2005.
