Jack Denton, a senior at Verona High School, was one of 14 high school seniors in Essex County to receive a Scholar-Athlete award at the Men of Essex Awards annual award dinner on May 18. David Tyree, formerly of the New York Giants, was the guest speaker at the event.
The Men of Essex was founded in 1958 to foster academics, athletics and community service among youth of Essex County. The Men of Essex choose the recipients based on recommendations of school officials and sports writers, and references from within each student’s community. In awarding Denton the Scholar-Athlete award, the Men of Essex cited his accomplishments both on the lacrosse field, where he was 1st Team All-Conference, as well as in the classroom, where Denton is No. 2 in his class. Denton will be attending the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in September.
Congratulations to this fine young man!
Well done, Jack!
