We have gotten this note from Kevin Ryan, who won the election to fill the unexpired two-year term of former Town Council member Ken McKenna on May 10:

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the citizens of Verona for the trust they have demonstrated by electing me to fill the 2 year term on the Verona Town Council. During the course of the campaign I had the opportunity to speak with many residents. They responded positively to the concerns I raised about property taxes, access to information and the need to treat every citizen with courtesy and respect. Addressing these issues will be high on my list of priorities. I am looking forward to working with fellow council members to meet the challenges that lie ahead.

I would also like to express my appreciation to all of the candidates who ran for office this year. Verona was fortunate to have so many of its citizens interested in public service. During the course of the two candidate forums, many good ideas emerged regarding additional shared services and potential sources of revenue. We need these candidates to stay involved and to give the town the benefit of their expertise.

I know for a fact many of my supporters were either first-time municipal election voters or those who had not voted in a local election for many years. Please stay involved. The closeness of this election clearly demonstrates that every vote does matter. Many thanks to my friends and tireless supporters, who went door, to door, made phone calls and sent email messages. I want to give special thanks to my wife and campaign manager, Valerie, and my son Matthew, for their encouragement and support. I would not have succeeded without them. I am looking forward to having a continuing dialogue on issues of concern, and know we will all work together to maintain Verona’s quality of life and vibrant community spirit.
