A reader has passed along news about a free kids chess program that his son, a Laning third grader, enjoys. It’s at the Cedar Grove Public Library, and it’s open to children of all skill levels, from true beginners to intermediate. Orange Chess Club President John Hagerty begins each session with some instruction before the kids, who are paired by skill level, get to play each other.

Classes are held on Fridays at 3:45 p.m. and Saturdays at 10 a.m. The next session begins Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30. If you want to get the kids in, you’ll need to download this form, and follow the instructions for sending it in.
