Christine Sepcie and Christopher Tamburro, history and social science teachers at Verona High School, will be attending the James Madison Seminar at Princeton University this summer as part of a Teaching American History Grant that VHS got. The seminar consists of two weeks of learning with some of America’s preeminent Constitutional scholars. This year’s focus is “American History in a Constitutional Context.”
“As a teacher with a strong background in political science,” says Tamburro, “I am specifically interested in encouraging students to analyze the impact of government structures on American History. Similarly, examining how the interpretation of the Constitution has changed based on social, economic, and political developments is crucial to understanding how the Country has reached its present legal climate.”
Sepcie anticipates the opportunity to learn from some of the historians. “I am excited to learn from some of the country’s most distinguished historians,” she says. “I am confident they will infuse new life into topics I have studied and taught many times before. I’ll eagerly translate that to the classroom next year.”
