Once again, the 2010-2011 Verona High school concert band proved that it is the best of the best. The band came in first out of all 24 bands that competed in the New Jersey State Concert Band Festival this week. As the winner, the band has been invited to close the New Jersey Gala Concert on Sunday, May 1, at Kean University.

On Tuesday evening, Verona’s band had received a Gold rating for its performance of “With Heart & Voice”, together with awards for Best Brass and Best Percussion, and an outstanding soloist award for timpani player Tyler Regino. You can listen to the band’s performance here.

Band Director Erik Lynch sent out a note today that read in part:

I would be remiss if I did not thank you as a community and school district for your unyielding support of music in the Verona Public Schools… In conjunction with our amazing students, I could not imagine anything more inspiring!
