The New MyVeronaNJ Calendar

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, the old saying goes. Well, we beg to differ.

The calendar program that we’ve been using for the last year on MyVeronaNJ.com wasn’t broken, but it wasn’t quite right either. For an event to be listed on it, our readers needed to e-mail us the information and we needed to carve out time to input it into the system. If readers wanted to save information they saw on the calendar, they needed to copy and paste it to their personal calendars. If they saw something on the calendar and wanted to tell their friends about it, they faced several steps of work. Not broken, but definitely not as good as it should be.

So today, we would like to introduce you to the new MyVeronaNJ.com calendar. How is it better? Let us count the ways:

  1. If you have an event that Verona should know about, you can list it yourself;
  2. If you want to find an event in a particular category or a particular day, you can easily search for it;
  3. If you want to stay on top of events in a category, like Kids, you can get them sent to you automatically;
  4. If you want to know exactly where an event is taking place, there’s a map to get you there;
  5. If you want to know what the weather is going to be the day of an event, we’ve got a forecast;
  6. If you want to save the event details to your home calendar, just push a button;
  7. If you want to tell all of your friends on Facebook or MySpace about an event, just push a button.
  8. If you need to have people register for an event, they can do so through the calendar.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is only the beginning of why this is a great new addition to MyVeronaNJ.com. We’ve programmed the calendar with the locations that are the most common venues for events in and around Verona. So if you have an event to add, you need only type a few details and the software will fill in all the address information. You can post comments on an event, and see which events are the most popular. And the new calendar is just as mobile as our new site design.

So take a minute to browse around the new Calendar. Take a minute to enter in an event (Sue DeWitt just entered a Pasta Night fundraiser for the Rescue Squad!). It won’t go live automatically, but we promise to review every entry promptly and publish the appropriate ones promptly. If there are categories of events you’d like to see, let us know.

Can you use the calendar to promote an event at your non-profit group? Absolutely yes. Can you use the new calendar to promote an event at your business? Let’s put it this way: If it’s something that you would have bought a newspaper ad to promote in the old days, you should consider buying a MyVeronaNJ.com ad to promote it now.

Happy Calendar, everybody.
