Obituaries: Dorothy I. Kientz

Ms. Dorothy I. Kientz, 99, died on Monday, February 28, 2011 at the Hospice of New Jersey in Wayne.

Visiting in the Prout Funeral Home,  370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., with a service to be held at 7:30 p.m. Burial services will be private.

Born at home in Verona, she was a lifelong resident, moving to the Green Hill Retirement Community in 2004. Ms. Kientz was a review partner actuary at George Buck Consultants in New York City from 1936 to 1978. She is a 1928 graduate of Verona High School and a 1933 graduate of Wellesley College with a degree in Math.

Ms. Kientz was a lifelong active member of the United Methodist Church of Verona, which her father built, serving on the Church Trustees, Treasurer and as a member of the United Methodist Women.

She was a member of the West Essex Camera Club and the Montclair Camera Club. An avid walker and hiker, Ms. Kientz was a member of the Appalachian Trail Walkers, the Woodland Trail Walkers and had hiked the Matterhorn, Mt. Blanc, the Grossglockner, Kilimanjaro, Mt. Rainier and the Grand Tetons.

She is survived by her niece, Virginia Kientz. In lieu of flowers, donations to the United Methodist Church of Verona, 26 Montrose Avenue, Verona 07044 would be appreciated
