The First Presbyterian Church of Verona will be celebrating Mardi Gras a few days early this year. On Saturday, March 5 at 5:30 p.m. at the church’s new “Saturday Night Alive” service, Max Morden and a band will lead boisterous music and Pastor Erik Spencer will lead spirited conversation in celebration of the day. “In the Christian calendar, Mardi Gras is a day of festivity on the last day before the disciplines and fasting of Lent,” says Pastor Spencer. “We intend to relax and rejoice in another day of living.”
“Saturday Night Alive” is an informal opportunity to seek God in music, prayer, discussion, and self-giving for people who don’t find traditional Sunday Protestant worship convenient, inviting or meaningful. Pastor Spencer encourages people to come dressed just as they are and to be accepted just as they are. (And to wear their Mardi Gras beads, of course.) After the service, the conversation continues at nearby O’Neil’s Pub.
First Presbyterian Church is at the corner of Fairview and Bloomfield avenues. Parking is available by the back door and the building is handicap accessible.
