Where In Verona Is It? Canine Designs

Maybe we should send this week’s hat to Sergey Brin or Larry Page.

No the co-founders of Google aren’t from Verona, and they weren’t among the players in the “Where In Verona” contest. But without a piece of their technology, Jeff Shilling might not have been this week’s winner.

Jeff, who was competing against two other members of his household, took a moment to process my comment on Thursday about the thermostat picture. “I figured it could be a pet grooming store,” he says, “since pets need to be kept warm after a bath or they will shiver and not be very responsive and cooperative to the person giving the bath.”

But rather than blindly guess, Jeff, who had previously won week 22 of the contest, resorted to a bit of technology. “With two such places on the Avenue, I kind of cheated by looking at Google Maps and used the street view to ‘sneak a peek’ into the front window of the two shops. I noticed the yellow wall through the window of Canine Designs so I figured it was that one.” Bet you didn’t know you could do that, right?

If you haven’t yet been there with your dog, Canine Design is located at 688 Bloomfield Avenue, just west of Jack’s Cafe and the Post Office on Bloomfield Avenue. And, name notwithstanding, Canine Design does groom cats as well. It’s open Tuesday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
