The Verona 5th grade girls won their Suburban League semifinal playoff matchup last night, defeating Livingston, 18-13, before a raucous home crowd (including many of their classmates from HBW) at the Verona Community Center.
The girls, as has been their trademark all season, played great defense for all four quarters and received scoring from a number of players. Maggie Ashley and Annabelle Zebrowski had five points each. Cecilia Courter dropped in four points and Adrianna Fierro and Julia Rigney registered solo baskets, while Kate Stanisci and Carly Denora supplied a strong interior presence in the second half when Verona finally pulled away from a pesky Livingston squad.
Verona will now await the outcome of the West Essex-West Caldwell game to see who they will play in the League Championship final.
Congratulations girls and good luck in the championship game!
