If you are into crunching data on schools, you have a gold mine to work through today: The state Department of Education has released its Report Card on school performance for 2010.

The Scholastic Aptitude Test scores provide one window into how well Verona is doing and it is cloudy. Verona High School‘s SAT scores were 533 math, 527 verbal and 531 essay, the second straight year of decline. That compares with scores of 574 math, 546 verbal and 555 essay for its district factor group, the state’s grouping of comparable schools. But for Glen Ridge High School, the school that the Verona Board of Education often chooses for comparisons, the scores were higher still: 584 math, 571 verbal and 571 essay. Our total average SAT score, 1,591, was well below the top school in the state: High Technology High School in Middletown had an average score of 2107.
