Verona waited until almost the last minute to make the call, but Verona has joined the dozens of school districts to close its schools today, Wednesday, February 2.

News12 New Jersey has a full list of all schools closed in its broadcast region. And it has already begun to track closings and delays announced for Thursday.

The National Weather Service says an ice storm warning remains in effect in our area through 6 p.m. tonight. It expects between 3/4 and 1 inch of ice to accumulate here and says that travel will be “extremely dangerous” into this afternoon. In addition, the wind will be picking up, which raises the possibility of downed branches and power lines.

Continental Airlines, the dominant carrier at Newark Airport, has canceled all arrivals and departures through noon today. Despite all this, New Jersey Transit says it is operating its trains on a regular schedule. All Essex County buses are operating except routes 70, 71, 73 and 79.
