The K-9 Obedience Training Club of Essex County, NJ will hold its annual dog obedience trial at Verona High School on Sunday, January 16.
This is a pretty big deal in dog show terms: There are going to be some 250 dogs participating, both American Kennel Club-registered breeds and, for the first time, mixed-breed dogs that are registered under the AKC’s Canine Partners Program.
The show runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., but you can drop in any time and stay as long as you like. Tickets are $3 for adults, $2 for seniors and children under 12, and children under 4 are free. Please don’t bring your own dog, however: Only dogs that are competing are allowed in VHS.
K-9 OTC is a not-for-profit organization that is the only AKC-affiliated dog training club in Essex County. It offers reasonably priced group obedience classes for all breeds and ages of dogs at classes in Montclair from September to mid-May. Additional information can be found at the club’s Web site.
