Mr. Nicholas D. Liberato, 86, died on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 in Glen Ridge, N.J.

A funeral mass will be offered in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Pine Street, Montclair on Friday, December 31 at 10 a.m. Visiting in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Born in Montclair, Mr. Liberato attended Montclair High School, where he was very active in sports. He moved to Verona in 1954.

He was a letter carrier for over 30 years in the Montclair Post Office, retiring in 1990 and was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, Local 342.

He owned Liberato Janitorial Services and worked part-time as the Evening Building Supervisor at the Verona Community Center.

Mr. Liberato was in the U.S. Army Air Corps, attached to the 1st Marines and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

Mr. Liberato is the beloved husband of the late Eleanor J. Liberato, the father of Connie Pifher, Debbie Liberato and her husband David Randall, Philip Liberato and his wife Karen, and Joan Coad. He is also the brother of Rocco Liberato, Clara Agostini, the grandfather of Todd Pifher and his wife Erika, Ryan Pifher, Rebecca Wagoner and her husband Brian, Nicholas Liberato-Randall, Michael Liberato- Randall, Philip Liberato, Jr., Nicole Liberato and the great grandfather of Faith and Bryson Wagoner. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Verona Rescue Squad or the Montclair Animal Shelter would be appreciated.
