Christopher Shaw entered into eternal life on December 25, 2010 after suffering for months with chronic liver disease. He was 51 years old.

Chris was born in Vailsburg, Newark and moved to Verona as a child and spent the rest of his life there making lifelong friends, gathering at Lucy’s Diner and Mr. Shawfty’s.

He worked as a hospital attendant at the Essex County Hospital Center in Cedar Grove and is a former member of the Verona Rescue Squad. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

Chris is the son of John J. Shaw and the late Therese P. Shaw, is the brother of John C. and wife Dawn, Robert A. and wife Roberta, Kevin and his wife Christine, William and his wife Kathleen, MaryEllen and her husband Andy Krahel, Karen and Therese and her husband Michael Passifiume. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Chris shared his life and his home with Maria Holler and her children, Jennifer, Michael, and Marissa, and his good pal Bucca.

A funeral mass will be offered at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Cedar Grove on Wednesday, December 29 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. In lieu of flowers, a donation in his memory to the Verona Rescue Squad would be appreciated. He was also a lifelong dog lover and would appreciate donations to an animal shelter of your choice.

To many of us Chris was an anchor in our family. He lovingly cared for his parents for years and was very upset with the loss of his Mom in April. He was directly involved with his sisters’ daily lives. There was never a time when someone asked for help that he wasn’t available. He lived a life of generosity and kindness. If we needed to know something, we could always ask Chris and get the answer and a lot of laughs as well. He was a wonderful, funny and loving son, brother, and friend, and we will miss him so very, very much.
