Obituaries: Ellen W. McCann

Mrs. Ellen W. McCann died on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at her home in Caldwell.

A funeral mass will be offered in St. Aloysius Church, Caldwell on Monday, December 13 at 10 a.m. Visiting in the Prout Funeral Home, 370 Bloomfield Ave., Verona on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Born in Orange, Mrs. McCann lived in Verona for 45 years prior to moving to Caldwell in 2006. She received a BA in History from Chestnut Hill College in 1957 and worked as a teacher in Kearny.

Mrs. McCann taught CCD at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Verona and was a volunteer with the Verona Service League.

She is the wife of Joseph P. McCann, Sr., the mother of Joseph P. (Jay) McCann, Jr. and his wife Karen, Gregory McCann and his wife Maureen, Jennifer McGinley and her husband Thomas and Andrew McCann and his wife Elizabeth.

She is also survived by her grandchildren Emily, William, Erin, Patrick, Connor, Matthew, Charlotte, Henry, Kathleen, Cara, Maeve and the late infant Ryan.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the West Essex First Aid Squad would be appreciated.
