Early this spring, Verona was scratching its head about the new food business that was going in on Grove Avenue. Now, Hobcaw Cafe is well enough known that it can be the answer to a contest about notable places in Verona.
Yes, the spoons we showed you in yesterday are just waiting to be dipped into a dessert at Hobcaw (a Whoopie Pie? a Red Velvet Cake?). And that strange-looking thing in Monday’s photo is part of a safety light.
But one of the most interesting things to see right now at Hobcaw isn’t in the slideshow because it wasn’t ready when Fred Goode was taking the pictures. Owner Nancy McArthur has followed up her frightfully fun Haunted Gingerbread house with a Pilgrim Gingerbread house that looks for all the world like one of the huts at Plimoth Plantation. There’s a contest associated with that too: Bring in canned foods that can be donated to a soup kitchen that Hobcaw supports, and you’ll be entered to win it.

The ladies need a MyVeronaNJ hat! If deemed the winner I am happy to donate mine. Oh – the carrot cake @ Hobcaw is DELICIOUS!!
