
The Montclair Academy of Dance and Laboratory of Music will hold its fall fundraiser, Reggie Workman Jazz Night, on Saturday, November 13 at the home of Montclair Town Council member Nick Lewis, 71 South Mountain Avenue in Montclair.
The event will include live performance by Reggie Workman and Ensemble, hors d’oeuvres by Morso Custom Catering, wine tasting compliments of Polaner Selections wine importers and a silent auction. Auction items include a sculpture by Nora Chavoosian, handcrafted jewelry by Saundra Messinger, a photo of Reggie Workman and Count Basie, and art work of Joanna Da Toca Raines.
Reggie Workman is an American avant-garde jazz and hard bob double bassist, recognized for his work with both John Coltrane and Art Blakey. Mr. Workman joined John Coltrane Quartet and was present for the saxophonist’s legendary Live at the Village Vanguard sessions. He also recorded with Art Davis on the 1961 album, Ole’Coltrane. He has recorded with Archie Shepp, Lee Morgan and David Murray. Mr. Workman is currently a professor at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City.

Proceeds from the evening will strengthen the school’s community outreach, benefit its scholarship program, and support its teaching artists.
