The score was lopsided, but there was nothing uneven about Verona’s performance as the Hillbillies beat Newark Academy 42-6 in a home game on Saturday.
The Neale-Kaslander-Rosenfeld machine once again worked to maximum efficiency. Cooper Neale got two touchdowns for Verona before the first quarter was even over. Quarterback Matt Rosenfeld had 129 yards on the day, including an 84-yard bomb to Bobby Kaslander, who also provided Verona with its final TD after an 80-yard kickoff return. But there was a new force on the field as well: Sophomore Frankie Greco, who racked up two touchdowns. Saturday’s game marked the 100th Verona win for Coach Lou Racioppe.
There was also a stellar performance in the stands, as several dozen Verona High School students turned out in various items of pink clothing to show their support for Breast Cancer Awareness month. Fred Goode captured highlights on and off the field.
