The Caldwell College Concert Series will present The Garden State Opera performing Puccini’s Il Tabarro on Sunday, October 24 at 4 p.m. in the Caldwell College Student Center. Caldwell College students will also perform the world premiere of Francesco Santelli’s Il Negozio. Both operas will be performed in Italian with English supertitles. A matinee performance of Il Negozio will be performed for local music and Italian students on Friday, October 22 at 11 a.m.
Il Tabarro (“The Cloak”), part of Puccini’s acclaimed trilogy of one-act operas Il Trittico, is a story of betrayal and murder which takes place on a barge on the Seine in Paris. Il Negozio is a charming one-act opera buffa about a village store and its customers, especially the one who is “eternally on the cell phone” holding up the line. The performance of Il Negozio will feature Cara Pernas and Cristal Boniché, Caldwell College seniors and Bayonne residents, as part of the Garden State Opera’s residency program. Caldwell College students will sing the minor roles and provide the chorus for both productions. Baritone Dorian Lake of Staten Island and soprano Joanne Spiegel of Cedar Grove complete the cast.
Tickets are $20 for general admission and $15 for students and seniors. Subscription and group discounts are also available. For more information, contact Laura Greenwald at (973) 618-3520.
