Marilyn English, a Verona resident who is a presence at many Verona Town Council meetings and an ardent opponent of the Essex County deer hunts and government waste, has announced that she is running for Essex County Executive in the November election.
English is a former assistant vice president at JP Morgan in the mergers and acquisitions department, where her responsibilities included budgets, human resources, auditing and compliance. She is running as an Independent against Democratic nominee Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr., who is seeking a third term as Essex County Executive, and Herbert D. Glenn, the Republican nominee.
On her campaign Web site, English lays out a litany of complaints about borrowing, spending and taxation in Essex County at venues such as Kip’s Castle, the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens and the newly opened miniGolf Safari miniature golf course. In her campaign handouts, she contends that documents she obtained through New Jersey’s Open Records Act show that the county paid an inflated price in 2007 for Kip’s, which was then owned by the law firm Stanziale, Schwartz and Tobia. English also says that the firm’s principal, Charles Stanziale, donated $7,500 to DiVincenzo’s 2006 re-election campaign.
The election will be held on November 2. If you are not yet registered to vote, October 12 is the last day to do so. See the New Jersey Division of Elections.
