Verona High School will be honoring one of its most memorable coaches tonight, former boys soccer coach George Stiefbold. The ceremony will take place at Centennial Field at 6:30 p.m., just before the home game against Cedar Grove.
“Steppy” as he was known by 33 seasons of players and their fans, won seven state championships and 11 suburban conference championships. According to VHS Athletic Director Gary Farishian, Stiefbold’s career coaching record was 372 wins, 157 losses, and 86 ties, which is the school record for the most soccer coaching victories. Steppy had a streak of 19 winning seasons from 1965-1983.
The weather report is calling for a 30% chance of rain, so bring an umbrella. We’ll see you there.
