Sharpen up your pumpkin carving knives, Verona. Essex County is going to be holding a community jack-o-lantern lighting at the Presby Memorial Iris Gardens in Upper Montclair on Friday, October 29, from 6 to 9 p.m.
The event is free, and here’s how it’s going to work. The county is asking folks to carve their pumpkins with a botanical theme–the event is celebrating the flowering of the Presby’s Remontant Irises, which re-bloom in the fall–and bring them to the garden. Put your name on the bottom with a permanent marker. The county will light all the jack-o-lanterns with candles and place them around the flower beds to help illuminate the gardens. There will be activities for children, live music and seasonal refreshments will be available. Prizes will be awarded. Gardens Aglow is sponsored in part by Dewberry.
If you are planning on displaying a pumpkin in “Gardens Aglow” you’ve got to register in advance. For information, please call 973-783-5974 or e-mail [email protected].[mappress]
The rain date for the event is Saturday, October 31.
