Today, the young students at The Children’s House will complete their first week of the new school year. Judging by the faces as they lined up on Monday, it has been for some their week of school ever. But not their teachers: The Montessori preschool, which operates out of the Methodist Church on Montrose, is marking its 45th year of educating Verona children this fall.
The school, which we looked at as part of our preschool series earlier this year, is pretty much at capacity with 60 children enrolled. But it plans to stay very much engaged with the community. On Sunday, it is co-sponsoring a car wash with the Methodist Church’s youth group to benefit Nothing But Nets, which distributes mosquito netting in Africa to stop the spread of malaria, the leading cause of death in children there. Children’s House also will hold a “green” book fair on October 24. It will be taking in gently used books for children and grownups and making them available to new readers. Look for more details on this soon.
