Calvary Lutheran Church has sent word that its big food drive on the north side of Verona on August 7 was a big success.
According to Pastor Gregg Ramirez and congregation President Bob Zinn and Vice President Dave Behlen, the “Can It With Calvary” food drive amassed nearly 2,000 pounds of food. The food collected was distributed to Montclair Human Needs Food Pantry, Community FoodBank of New Jersey, the Goodwill Mission in Newark and several local families.
Calvary congregation members had canvassed the north side of Verona in July, passing out door hangers to let residents know about the event. They picked up food from homes and from collection boxes at the church. In the fall, Calvary will again reach out to the community in a similar effort, this time concentrating on doorstep pickups on the south side. In the meantime, Calvary’s leaders wanted us to pass along their gratitude:
“So THANK YOU volunteer members of Calvary, everyone who publicized the event and, most especially, residents who helped feed the hungry with their donations. You should be proud of yourselves!
