If you live on the north side of Verona, remember to put non-perishable food items out on your front steps tomorrow, Saturday August 7, for Calvary Lutheran Church‘s first community-wide food. The church has set up the drive to replenish the shelves at the Community FoodBank of New Jersey and the Human Needs Food Pantry in Montclair. Supplies in these pantries dwindle in summer and the children who depend on free school lunch programs don’t have those to fall back on.
Suggested donations for the drive, which has been dubbed “Can It With Calvary” include canned fruit, vegetables and beans; peanut butter and jelly; baby food; pasta products and sauce in cans; cereals, powdered milk; and foods high in protein, such as canned meats, stews and soups with meat.
If you don’t live on the north side of town or if you aren’t going to be home on collection day, you can still donate to the food drive. Calvary Lutheran will have food donation boxes at the Hill Street entrance of the church on August 6, 7 and 8. Monetary donations will also be accepted and a southside food drive is being scheduled. Please call the church office at 973-239-0577 for further information .
