As much as summer is for vacation and relaxing, it’s also a good time to “keep up” without the pressure. In Verona, there is a large focus on reading, which I personally love. It’s almost a shame that in my experience only the 2nd graders are required to read for 20 minutes a day. What I wouldn’t give…. but I digress.
If your child could use a little extra help in the reading department, Rutgers University offers a Summer Reading Program. The program is taught by the Institute of Reading Development and the programs are offered locally by Rutgers University, Division of Continuing Studies. The age range is from 4 year olds to adults. Some of the program highlights are phonics, word-attack, long word decoding, fluency training, reading comprehension, speed reading, study skills, vocabulary, SAT/ACT prep, and love of reading.
