If you thought secession was something that vanished with the Civil War, consider this: Glen Ridge is weighing a decision to secede from New Jersey’s public education system.
According to The Star Ledger, the Glen Ridge school board will discuss converting some or all of its schools to private schools when it goes on a retreat later this month. State law allows a switch if 51% of the teachers and parents OK it, but no school district has ever tried it.
